This is a decent sequel, primarily because it goes in a completely different direction than the first movie. Ariel (Amanda Righetti of FRIDAY THE 13th remake), the sister of Sara Wolfe (Ali Larter) keeps on getting frantic phone calls from her sister until she dies, an apparent suicide. In truth, she was killed by some treasure hunters, who believe that a rare, priceless statue is hidden somewhere within the bowels of the House on Haunted Hill. This is the idol of Baphomet. A college professor and two of his assistants are also in search of the statue. Both groups end up at the old asylum and get picked off one by one by the insane ghostly inhabitants. Among them, of course, is Dr. Vannacutt (Jeffrey Combs) who does some very gory work. In fact, it's revealed that the evil Baphomet statue may be responsible from Vannacutt's transforming from a humanitarian into a crazed butcher.
Hopefully this will continue to be a decent enough series.
