This is an interesting, albeit totally unnecessary prequel to Lucas' first STAR WARS movie, telling the tale of how the Death Star was built and why the rebels were able to eventually destroy it. The main character, Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) is the daughter of Galen Erso, the scientist who was forced to help build that massive weapon. When he was captured by the Empire she escaped and was raised by Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker), someone the Resistance now wants to contact. Although it seems pretty fast, this woman becomes part of the rebellion and helps get the blueprints for the Death Star.
The things I like the best are Ben Mendelsohn as villain Orson Krennic, the computer-generated Peter Cushing as Tarkin, Alan Tudyk as the voice of droid K-2SO and the special effects, which are impressive. And, of course, it's great to see Darth Vader, both before and after he dons his cybernetic costume. The movie has a surprisingly down ending, which makes sense since we've never heard of any of these rebel characters. As with most movies these days it's a half-hour too long but I enjoyed it.
