This fun 70's wanna-be disaster film builds slowly into a good cat and mouse thriller. A silly, uptight type of guy is planting bombs at various amusement parks. He seems to have picked out one poor bastard to use as his contact, always calling this dude to let him try and know what he may do next. The cops, of course, chase their tales never quite catching up with the slick bombardier. In the end, the poor slob that's been used as his official relay man to talk to the cops with has to do all the catchin' and solve the mysterious identity of the nut. The chase scenes through the parks are fun, since it's the 70's we are treated to plenty of sexy braless honeys in tight shirts with long hair looking good. I always loved this flick because one segment was filmed right up the road at King's Dominion with that asshole bomber trying to blow up our beloved Rebel Yell... dickhead. The end game at Magic Mountain turns funny as well as suspenseful. Back when Roller Coaster was filmed, the subject of crazed bombers blowing shit up seemed like a distant movie fantasy, something so wild it made for a great, unsettling movie. Watching this movie now, Roller Coaster seems like a film ahead of its time, almost a warning. The events it depicts are all too possible and realistic in todays fucked up world. Roller Coaster may have become scarier now than when it was initially made. Watch this and plan that next family get-away to your local amusement crap hole, you might be looking under the seat of every ride you get on.
