A dragon-like demon named Acu (the voice of Mako), who was banished from the world, returns to take his revenge on the ruler who had put him their. The wife flees with their son-and he's trained, by masters throughout the world, to be the ultimate warrior. Once an adult, he is given the Samurai sword and goes back to his father's kingdom to find that the demon still rules-and that his father has been a slave. Before he can destroy the demon, however, he's cast into a time warp that flings him into the far future, where Acu not only rules the entire planet but has designs on the galaxy as well. In these first few episodes (compiled on this tape) he is befriended by intelligent, archeologist dogs, who want to find out where they came from (and a clever nod to the chimps in the first, original PLANET OF THE APES movie). There's a Star Wars cantani type scene where he fights some reptilian aliens (and I can see how Lucas became interested in the creator of this doing the cartoon episodes for CLONE WARS) and in the end fights these crab creatures that look like the bug aliens from STARSHIP TROOPERS.
This feature is the only thing I've seen of this Cartoon-Network series-and now I'll have to see all the rest. SAMURAI JACK is extremely entertaining.
