Although not quite as cataclysmic as 2012, this is one of the better disaster movies to come along in years, definitely a worthy successor to the Irwin Allen disaster movies of the 70's. "The Rock" portrays Ray, an LA Fire and Rescue worker who is on a job when a huge earthquake rocks California along the San Andreas fault line. There's predictable human interaction--he and his wife, Emma (Carla Gugino of THRESHOLD) lost a daughter the year before and are getting a divorce because he can't talk about his emotions. And then the college-age daughter, Blake (Alexandra Daddario of the PERCY JACKSON movies) wants them to get together, only there's a new guy in the soon-to-be ex-wife's life (Ioan Gruffud). Of course the massive disaster brings them all together as a reunited family. But the special effects are the star--and it has some of the most effective 3-D I've seen in years. In fact, this is one of the best flicks of the Summer of 2015--far more entertaining and thrilling than the new TERMINATOR and JURASSIC PARK movies combined...
