Chloe (Sarah Hyland of MODERN FAMILY), her boyfriend David, and her cousin and her Asian boyfriend go to Los Angeles to visit true-occult crime sites. The first weird thing that happens is that they get lost because David doesn't have his GPS turned out-and they see a girl pounding on a glass window in an abandoned looking building. They don't do anything about it, though. Then, they check into a motel where a Church of Satan member killed herself in the 70's, visit the house where Manson and his gang slaughtered Sharon Tate, and visit the official Church of Satan, where a few people spit on their car. It's only after they go to a creepy occult book store that events start speeding up. They are treated poorly, then follow the bald owner the following night to a cult meeting where it looks like they are going to sacrifice a young woman. Chloe screams out and interrupts them-and they flee in their van. Later, they get a call from that woman from the cell phone one of them dropped during the chase. They meet her-and things get weirder. She firmly believes in the power of Satan and kills herself in that same hotel room.
They end up in an abandoned factory area, where things begin to get violent-complete with an unsettling ending that really made no sense to me. It was graphic and unsettling but should have some way earlier in the film.
SATANIC didn't really leave me with an impression. The writers didn't do their research, none of the characters are likable, and I found myself bored. Not recommended.
