Some of Earth's tectonic plates are moving in such a way as to expose the surface to the power of the inner core, which would decimate life on the planet. John Rhys-Davis is an expert geologist who is working for the US government to stop this from happening. Also on the team is his estranged daughter and an special military agent (Mark Dacascos). It turns out that the only solution is to explode several nuclear bombs in the heart of Los Angeles, which will prevent the plates from moving and thus save everyone. There's a subplot involving a government conspiracy, and another about Dacascos' daughter, who becomes stranded in the evacuated city.
This isn't a bad movie, just sort of one of those generic end of the world movies you'll see on Sci-Fi Channel.
