I must say that they did a decent enough job of matching the look of the first movie, though in the end it's a needless sequel that regurgitates what was established in the first, and better, film.
The premise is that Earth gets a distress call from planet Sirius 6-B and they send out a rescue ship, which includes Lt. Victoria Bronte (Gina Holden), who turns out is the daughter of the Peter Weller character in the first movie. Once they get there they discover that a comet will obliterate the atmosphere in a few days, making the planet uninhabitable, so if there are any survivors they have a very set time limit.
They do find survivors living in the mines--and also the Screamers, which use human bodies for spare parts. Lance Henricksen shows up at the inventor of the Screamers. One by one the humans are hunted down, until only Lt. Bronte and one of the guys are still alive. Or are they?
The one good thing I have to say about this sequel is that the special effects are great--and nasty. Otherwise, if you're tempted to rent this out stop yourself and re-watch the first movie again. You will be happier in doing so.
