Master Gregory (Jeff Bridges) is a Spook, which means he hunts and kills monsters, including witches. When his apprentice is killed by Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore), who has recently escaped her prison, he must find another apprentice. This is Tom Ward (Ben Barnes), a Seventh Son, which means he has powers. He also has visions of the future, one of the reasons he willingly goes with Gregory when he shows up at his farm. This is the old man he's had visions about. Before he departs he's given a pendant by his mother (Olivia Williams). Much later, we find out what this signifies--and it comes in handy with the final battle between the Spooks and the witches. Gregory has a cool hideout in the mountains and a troll assistant name Tusk. And Tom falls in love with a local girl, Alice, who is half witch. In fact, her mother is the sister of Malken--and she gets drawn into their war with the humans.
This is a fun fantasy movie, much more along the lines of the PERCY JACKSON films than GAME OF THRONES. There are plenty of monsters, including dragons the witches transform into, and Bridges is hilarious as the intoxicated monster hunter. Recommended.
