This moody, voodoo-theme suspense movie is your average Hollywood horror movie, which means you should not expect a lot. Kate Hudson (who has an unremarkable screen presence) portrays a hostice care worker hired to look after an old man (William Hurt) who has had a stroke. His wife (Gena Rowlands) is immediately distrustful of her, although she does give the young woman the house's skeleton key, which unlocks every door in the huge Southern mansion. The trouble starts when Hudson opens a hidden door up in the attic and finds it littered with voodoo paraphernalia. The 'big surprise ending', touted in other reviews when this was showing theatrically, is no surprise whatsoever if you've seen other voodoo movies, namely ANGEL HEART. Even if you haven't, you'll probably guess the ending less than halfway through the picture. Overall, there's not a lot of meat to this movie.
