Sean Astin (LORD OF THE RINGS) portrays an unlikable physicist who has perfected a time-travel device. Yet, it only enables him to go ten minutes back in time. One day, when he's at the bank depositing his check and trying miserably to pick up the bank teller, robbers come in and hold up the place. He's shot--and turns on his device before he dies. Events rewind to the previous ten minutes and the events happen slightly differently. He ends up pairing up with an FBI agent, who wants to resurrect her partner. He was shot and killed the second time. It's too late to do that, though, so they pursue the bank robbers, who have stolen the time-travel device. There's lots of scenes that rewind and start over again. Sean Astin remains irritating throughout all of them. The movie ends exactly the way you think it would-back at the beginning-so that nothing really ends up happening after all. SLIPSTREAM is perhaps the most boring time travel movie ever made.
