SLITHER is an old-fashioned monster movie, along the lines of THE BLOB and I MARRIED A MONSTER FROM OUTER SPACE. And, of course, to go along with the modern trend of the first decade of the 21st Century, there are plenty of zombies here as well.
The action takes place in small town around deer hunting season, in which a meteor has landed and has infected one of the local residents. He starts to change into a tentacled creature, much to the dismay of his young wife. The "hero" of the movie is the local Chief of Police (Nathan Fillion), who has always had a crush on this unattainable woman.
Some of the townspeople are taken over and are basically meat puppets for the creature (they all have his thoughts and memories) while others are impregnated and give explosive birth to the worms that are the cause of the infection. One character comments that the monster is basically a huge, living virus.
Although I enjoyed the movie my favorite parts are the documentaries on the extras of the dvd. Truly hilarious, particularly the bits with Nathan Fillion and director James Gunn (DAWN OF THE DEAD remake).
SLITHER is not at all about originality, it's about entertainment. Yet,the biggest question of all remains... "Who is Bill Pardy?"
