For a while I had been interested in seeing this documentary, supposedly investigating the "myth" of the "snuff film". I had heard it was shot in my area and featured some rather graphic footage - plus, the whole concept of "snuff" is a morbidly fascinating concept. "Snuff: A Documentary About Killing on Camera" turned out to be THE most pointless and deplorable excuse for a "documentary" I have ever seen. It was more of a movie about MOVIES that have to do with "snuff" - as told by a handful of strung-out, insane looking nobodies. All of whom offer absolutely NO insight into anything. We start off by seeing clips from "Faces of Death", "Cannibal Holocaust" and the whole end scene from 1976's "Snuff" while the people interviewed don't even seem to know anything about any of THEM! That sort of sent up a red-flag right off the bat. Showing the 'controversial' ending from "Snuff" was meaningless and an obvious time-killer used to bulk up the movie's length... It then jumps to different "segments" - one of which BRIEFLY talking about the Leonard Lake and Charles Ng murder tapes and the rest pretty much just showing gratuitous war video of soldiers being gunned down and/or beheaded. All of this was tasteless and shown for absolutely NO reason. And when this flick wasn't even attempting to supply analytical commentary to the exploitive material that was being shown, it had producer Mark L. Rosen lying his ass off - relaying stories, one of which detailing the crimes of a supposed Russian child-snuff film maker. The information was full of holes and clearly embellished, if not a complete lie. Rosen later talks about his experience in the Philippines back in the 70s when he was allegedly offered to view a snuff film. The man is a bullshit artist, plain and simple! For a much more informative look at the possibility of the existence of "snuff", check out "The Dark Side of Porn: Does Snuff Exist". This is just a crudely exploitive compilation of "shock" footage - making it pretty much just another lewd "death film" - and senseless 'blab' from a bunch of unobserved, heedless characters...
