A journalist, Peter, and his girlfriend, Lorna, go undercover to find out about a new cult that's sprouting up in the city. It's all very secretive and they're blindfolded when they are taken to the meeting location. The guy even swallows recording device so they can get footage. The reason Peter is doing this is because his mother was sucked into a cult when he was a kid and it fucked him up. But his girlfriend gets converted. When they meet the cult's leader, Maggie (Brit Marling of Another Earth), things shift. She explains that she comes from the future, where life is very difficult, and has come back to prepare certain people for what is to come. There's also a side story of one of Peter's students (he's a teacher), a young girl who has visions. Maggie wants to meet her--claiming that this is her mother. Is she telling the truth or is she crazy? In the last few minutes of the film Peter gets his answer. This is an intense, effective movie, worth checking out.
