Species III (2004)
Movie Review by The Gravedigger
12.20.04

Species III (2004) The third installment of this killer alien franchise is, surprisingly, its best. To give you an idea of how much I liked the first two movies, let's say it's an 'F' word that rhymes with the title. The action picks up immediately after the end of Part 2, with the dead body of Sil being taken away in an ambulance. The ambulance is being driven by a scientist who plans to steal her body and hopes of learning the aliens' secrets. When Sil begins having contractions she unexpectedly comes back to life-and gives birth to a daughter. As she's in labor, though, another hybrid alien, in the form of a small boy, strangles her to death. The ambulance is abandoned and the scientist manages to take Sil's baby to safety, where he raises her. This scientist also teaches at the local college and recruits one of his more intelligent students to help him in his work. This happens after they both witness the 'meltdown' of a hybrid alien, which turns out to be that boy alien at the beginning rapidly grown to adulthood. Before he dies he alien explains that the alien/human hybrids are dying because their DNA is not pure. Sil's daughter, on the other-hand, has the most complete alien DNA. In fact, she doesn't want to mate with any human males because she knows it's futile. Least to say, she and the other hybrids don't exactly get along, which causes most of the conflict.Considering this is a cheaper, direct-to-video sequel, this movie doesn't skimp on the gory special-effects or the nudity. Of course, it's open-ended so the possibility of more SPECIES movies remains...
