This eight episode Netflix series does a fantastic job of recreating the 80's, from the casting of two 80's stars Matthew Modine and Wynona Ryder, to the soundtrack and "look" of the series.
In a small Midwestern town strange things are going on, things related to the secret military science base doing experiments with psychic phenomena and other dimensions. A young boy disappears one night and his mother, Joyce Byers (Ryder) and his older brother try to discover what happened to him. At around the same time a mysterious girl wanders into town and there are people after her, presumably from the facility. She's befriended by a trio of boys who are friends with the missing boy. Unbeknownst to the parents she stays in the basement of one of their houses. They learn her name is "Eleven" and that she has telekinetic abilities, which come in handy later. Not only has she escaped from the facility, so has a nasty creature from this other, dark dimension, which preys on humans. Also involved is a gruff Sheriff, who is basically the hero, and the teenaged sister and boyfriend of one of the kids.
STRANGER THINGS is an interesting, well-acted show, exactly like a great Stephen King story adaptation.
