A young couple, James Hoyt (Scott Speedman) and Kristen McCay (Liv Tyler) go to a secluded house in the woods after they attend a wedding reception. However, things don't go as James planned, as he asked her to marry him and she said no. Now, they are together, uncomfortable and sad. Then a girl comes to the door at 4am asking for some other person, which they think is a little weird, but then forget about it. When James goes out for a drive the three Strangers start harassing Kristen by pounding on the door-- and moving stuff around in the house. This freaks her out, understandably. Then, when James gets back they destroy his car and things escalate....in a predictable manner.
THE STRANGERS reminds me a lot of LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT and about a zillion other movies. There are no scares, no jumps and I didn't find it particularly suspenseful. The only reason I was squirming in my seat was not to fall asleep. THE STRANGERS is a big disappointment.
