The opening action scene is Superman in a drag-out fight with the Atomic Skull, who kills people by sucking out their energy and turning them to dust. The creepy villain is defeated by Supes, imprisoned and his power siphoned off to help power the city. Then, a new superhero group makes itself known. The leader is Manchester Black, who can move objects with a force from his eyes, Coldcast, who is incredibly strong, Menagerie, a gargoyle-like woman who can call forth slimy creatures from her body, and The Hat, a magician with real conjuring powers. At first they seem to want to help Superman and even assist him when war breaks out with these biologically created monsters in the small country of Bialya. However, they don't share Superman's idealism with keeping human life sacred and offer a permanent solution to dealing with evildoers--death. As The Elite become well known Superman's popularity wains because public opinion supports them. A confrontation culminates with a battle on the moon--when Superman seems to snap and go for their blood.
This PG-13 animated movie is intense and it's not that often you see a truly pissed off Superman. Recommended.
