In a small Louisiana town the local sheriff (Robert Davi) has a side business of smuggling illegal animals. This time it's a big shark that breaks out from the tank it's being hauled in. The beast escapes into the nearby swamp. Of course, this is happening during the town's "Gator Fest". Rachel McDaniel (Kristy Swanson of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER) who owns the "Gator Shack" restaurant, sees the shark fin--and witnesses her alligators being eaten--but no one believes her. Of course, the sheriff denies her crazy sighting because he wants to cover his ass. When a person gets mangled to bits he blames her escaped gators for the killing. So Rachel, with the help of a mysterious patron named Tommy (D.B. Sweeney) go out to stop the creature from eating more people.
Although it follows the basic premise of JAWS, PIRANHA and ALLIGATOR, this is a better-than-average killer shark movie with likable characters, decent special effects and a sense of humor.
