Thicker Than Water: The Vampire Diaries Part 1 (2009)

I was pleased, as someone who has seen virtually every vampire movie out there, that this new film actually did something new and different with the blood drinking genre.
Goth girl Lara Baxter is sixteen years old and doesn't get along with her preppie, blonde haired sister, Helen. She performs a black magic ritual on her, her sister gets an intense bloody nose and dies. Lara thinks she's to blame--but it's just a part of the life cycle of the vampire, as that's what Helen comes back as. You see, Helen was adopted and grew up thinking she was entirely human.
Her foster family keeps her in the basement, bringing her live food. The first are two Mormons, which is quite funny, as it's always been kind of a fantasy to do something similar with these guys. Then, the a real live vampire comes around to visit Helen. He's dressed exactly like a character from INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE.
Of course, the movie is open ended, as this is part 1, yet it's interesting enough and leaves enough unexplalined so that I'll definitely tune in for the next installment.
