I'm a sucker for time-travel movies and although this premiered on the Hallmark Channel I still had some high hopes. A thirty-year-old newspaper reporter, Richard Kerm, flees his high profile current job (it's his habit) and ends up back in the home town he originally ran away from. He drops by the local newspaper where he had his beginnings and meets a guy in his mid-fifties, who knows an awful lot about him. This is Dick Kerm (Richard Thomas), who is actually himself from the future. The majority of the plot deals with Richard coming to terms with this life, what he wants/doesn't want/ and reuniting with his old girlfriend who he had abandoned by the big city. Dick wants to influence his younger self into making different decisions so he's not alone in his life. Ultimately, he does manage to change the future.
I think the movie would have had more impact if the two actors resembled each other a bit more--or even acted the same. I had to keep on reminding myself that this was the same character at different ages.
This movie is NOT to be confused with the excellent TIME AFTER TIME, which featured Malcolm McDowell as H.G. Wells pursuing Jack the Ripper.
