A nice little satanic flick from Hammer starring Chris Lee, Natasha Kinski, and Richard Widmark in fine form. Lee is wonderful as the priest who will not recant and works to bring forth a fine female form for his lord Astaroth. The birth and baptism scenes are a bit morbid with Lee leering the whole time. Widmark as the writer out to beat some satanic ass is the coolest part of this flick. I love the way he deals with Natsha Kinski's little possessed fit by slapping her down a few times before finally punching her in the damn mouth. Geez, maybe we should have made him the priest in The Exorcist so he could have beaten the shit and the devil out of Linda Blair's ass too. This film has a good if not somewhat hard to follow plot, but the action is good and the feel is right on the money for this type of film. The plot twists and atmosphere help this film greatly as it's not that bloody. Kinski naked helps a lot too! The ending was a little lame to me, but hell, the rest of the film makes up. If you like underhanded dealings with the devil and his demons, religious conspiracies, and nuns getting bitch slapped, you will love this. I sure did.
