This is amongst the best Hooper films. It's TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE mixed with THE TENANT. Angela Bettis' (MAY, CARRIE) character is on the opposite end of the spectrum for a change, portraying a woman who discovers there's something weird going on in her apartment building. The building was constructed in the 1920's and has these weird symbols engraved in the stonework. It turns out that these comprise a spell, which has kept a hidden denizen of the structure 'alive' the past century. There's good acting and plenty of gore.My only complaint is that they should have left the gore sequences uncut in the body of the edited movie. To see them in their entirety you have to go to the 'Extras' on the DVD. I suppose this enables them to get an 'R' rating, as the Extras aren't rated. I suppose better that than not seeing them at all.
