American version of the British TV series, well, Americanizes the characters quite a bit. Robson Green portrayed Detective Kreegan as somewhat impulsive but otherwise subdued, as if he was always thinking too much. Jeffrey Donovan, on the otherhand, plays him as crazy, as a brain-damaged detective. It's a much more 'in your face' approach, I'd say. Also, everything is laid out in a very linear manner. It's not until a ways into the first episode of the original series that we find out Kreegan was shot in the head and actually died for ten minutes. In the US, Kreegan is shown getting shot in the first scene and having an out-of-body experience as the doctors operate on him.His partner, Branca, is cast totally opposite from the UK version as well, being blonde and waifish. The story is pretty much the same, though much more time is put on Kreegan's 'craziness' than it is on the serial killer who has kidnapped several children. The killer isn't nearly as intelligent or downright creepy as the original as well. This American take on the series isn't bad but it pales in comparison to the source material. I'll have to watch the rest of the first season's episodes to see how much the stories have been changed around...
