An airplane pilot, Glenn Edwards, crash lands into an unexplored jungle of the Amorak Crater. His girlfriend, Samantha, and a friend contact a guide to help him get to the area-and they enter this strange land that's located in the crater of a huge meteor. While the animals look prehistoric they are actually mutated creatures caused by the crater's radiation. And the most impressive of these is a fifty-foot tall caveman with three eyes. The Triclops is a man in make-up but all the other creatures are animated via stop-motion-animation, which really makes this seem like a film made in the 1950's or 60's, which is clearly the intention.
Director/Writer Brett Piper (ARACHNIA, THEY BITE) is, as far as I know, one of the only directors nowadays that's continuing the legacy of Ray Harryhausen and Jim Danforth. Stop-motion animation is an important art for movies-it's completely different than CGI and should be treated as such. TRICLOPS is also a worthy successor to the films of Bert I.Gordon (Cyclops, King Dinosaur) and I enjoyed this Polonia Brothers movie far more than the last AVENGERS flick. Highly recommended.
