In the post-apocalyptic world of 1997, "The Kid" (Munro Chambers) does his best to survive in the toxic and violent environment. He's a loner teenager whose parents were killed years ago by the overlord Zeus (Michael Ironside). The only thing that keeps him going is his fantasy life, which includes reading comic books. When he discovers a crashed spaceship that contains a power suit that gives him the same power as his comic-book idol he tries to embody that character, to mixed results. Along the way we're introduced to a wide assortment of characters which include Frederic, a leading-man type guy who keeps on getting injured, and Apple, a peculiar young woman who gloms onto The Kid. The two become friends and as the movie progresses we find out there's something very special about this woman.
Zeus is a nasty villain, having people fight to the death for his own amusement and even killing humans to remove them of their bodily fluids, for his own drinking water. The special effects are gory and over-the-top, exactly what they should be. This is an extremely entertaining movie that has the look and feel of an early 80's science fiction film (think AFTER THE FALL OF NEW YORK or SPACEHUNTER: ADVENTURES IN THE FORBIDDEN ZONE). This is the best 80's science-fiction after-the-Apocalypse movie, ever. Highly recommended.
