For some reason, I really liked this movie, even thought it was fairly easy to figure out and not quite the slasher film I was expecting. Sure, it has some pretty gory scenes and some downright (is that a word?) nasty moments, just not as hardcore as I'd expected. Some people are calling the film... ugh!... a "thriller". Personally, I'd say it's still very much a horror film in my book and a good one. And NO, it's not a fucking Hostel rip-off or such shit, to me it was more suspenseful than Hostel so...give it a chance. Loved the locale and the camera work, especially in the underground cave system and pools. Turistas proves that a slow moving film can still hold your attention and be fun. I was amazed at how these people got led further and further into trouble. At 1st, I was like damn y'all are dumb as shit, but if stuck in some backwoods jungle boonies with no help and no idea what's up, no money, and you keep putting your foot in your mouth, what else can you do? Man, they should have waited for the bus! Turistas knocks any plans I had for visiting Brazil in the head, in fact don't think I'll ever go out of the country.
