Ok, this flick's real horrorshow. I'm not too terribly sure how big it was in Australia and Europe, but I had never heard of The Ugly (Made in New Zealand) until I was watching the Boogeymen DVD. When I caught glimpse of the creepy dead people all hanging around this guy with what looks like black blood coming all out of everywhere telling this guy to 'kill the bitch' I had to check it out. Luckily I found it at Hollywood. I was worried because it wasn't a very big film that it'd be overlooked, but there it was in all it's razorblade goodness. Following the story of a patient (Simon....maybe an inspiration for the Simon in Session 9) who has this 'demon' inside his head he calls The Ugly. It makes him see the people he's killed, and it makes it harder and harder to stop each time. This film seems to be an experimental sort with odd camera angles and crazy cuts and flashbacks. And it seems as if the Writer/Director Scott Reynolds was trying to do something with the color scheme of the whole movie. One thing though, and I find it actually very interesting. The blood is black. Why? I don't know, but I saw it as that's how Simon saw it. The experimental (at the time) camera work and interesting story made this just a wonderful creepshow to take in. Some of the acting was a bit thin, but only in minor characters it seemed, so, it was to be a bit expected. But the direction was interesting and fun to watch. Rent Rhino Videos Everyday....um....I mean, check this flick out. It's definitely worth the price to rent it at the very least.
