I have mixed feelings about this movie. On one hand I liked the script by Ron Ford and Jose Prendes-it was a good homage to DARK SHADOWS and I grew up on DARK SHADOWS. I also liked the brief makeup effects by Ralis Kahn-there's a cool throat slashing of Ron Ford in a cameo and the look of the vampire is great. And it's always good to see Geoffrey Lewis (NIGHT OF THE COMET, SALEMS'S LOT and father of Juliet Lewis) in a movie. He's one of the great character actors.BUT the look of the movie, the directing and most of all the casting really suck. I felt like I was watching a student film. In many of the dream scenes and when the vampire appears, it's as if someone went insane with the fog machine-it's ridiculous. And the absolute worse thing you can do in a movie, and it's an easily fixable thing by cropping the picture,is to show the microphones. There's a kitchen seen where you can clearly see the boom mike at the top of the screen going from actor to actor-and you see the microphone later in another scene. Not only does this totally break the 'reality' of the movie, as if slamming into a brick wall, it shows that they had unprofessionals shooting and doing audio on the movie. It made it seem amateurish. Director/Producer Denice Duff, while a decent actress in most things I've seen, particularly Jose Prende's THE MONSTER MAN and the SUBSPECIES films, way overacts here. I think there was no one for her to get feedback on her performance or something. The guy who was cast as the vampire is creepy as the vampire-skinny and gaunt-but is no leading man. If they ever make another SLEEPY HOLLOW movie they have to cast him as Ichabod Crane. The movie was supposed to be a love story and there's absolutely no chemistry between these leads, which is a problem. On most low-budget movies I wouldn't go on like this-but with a six page article in FANGORIA, all the hype and a release at Blockbuster you expect something more.
