Like JUNK, another Japanese zombie movie, this combines the criminal underworld with the undead. Yet, whereas JUNK is more of a conventional zombie flick, VERSUS is an epic. Two brothers, one supposedly good, the other evil, are vying for power in a place called the Resurrection Forest, in which there is one of the gateways to Hell. There's lots of POV camera shots zooming through the forest, vaguely like EVIL DEAD, and the zombies here move FAST and are able to use weapons. It turns out that one of the brothers is hundreds of years old-and that he had killed his younger brother, who is now reincarnated and only beginning to get his memories back. Not only are they fighting as to who will survive and be able to leave the Forest, their battle will determine the fate of mankind.VERSUS is one of the most original zombie movies I have ever seen.
