This is a good old fashioned monster movie released through MTI.A group of friends go on a fishing trip in the woods. One of them has brought his fiancee and the other two guys aren't too keen on the idea. They'd rather tell dirty stories and drink beer (of course!). Near the lake is government property. It just so happens that this is also where an experiment has gotten loose. There's this huge, RELIC/dinosaur looking monster which is killing people. To make matters worse there's someone who is feeding it, a rogue government operative named Kane (Tom Savini). He leads unsuspecting people to it, like the campers, and then hides the remainders in the basement of an old building. The man in charge of the secret government project sends in two Marines to kill Kane and the monster. Kane kills them first. There are a few more deaths, of people who inadvertently stumble into the area. And in the end, only the camper couple is left alive. Now, hey not only have to survive Kane but defeat this huge monster. This movie moves and the acting is top notch except for one of the actors-Tom Savini. Sure, it's cool to have Savini's name on a picture-but we all remember him for doing great special effects, like DAWN OF THE DEAD, CREEPSHOW, MONKEY SHINES. That's what he should be doing-not half-acting in these types of movies. He never got lauded for his acting! It's those effects he used to do--the EFFECTS! Compared to the rest of the cast he stands out like a sore thumb. This is one of the better killer animal movies to come to the video store shelves in quite while. Don't rent the latest giant rat, spider or bee movie--check VICIOUS out instead. Directed by Matt Green.
