This independent horror flick has a complicated plot that the budget can't quite do justice to. A witch hunter by the name of Martin Del Rio, from the early 1600's, ends up taking a demon into himself in order to battle a demon queen named Oullette. This demon inside allows him to live until present day, where he hooks up with a group of kids, one of which is obsessed with the occult. He's nerdy guy with a buzz cut. Someone has called forth queen Oullette and her demons start attacking people.Almost all of the friends are killed in various ways-and in the end they're chased by this big crowd of zombies, most the denizens of the town of Chico, California. In the end the three survivors get in a car, not knowing where they are going. One says 'How about Mexico', while another replies 'We just got out of a Romero horror movie, you want to go into a Rodriguez one?'. Then the third says 'What about Canada?' and the reply is 'Wendigo' (a monster of Native America legend). Some of the special effects are decent, such as a scene in which one of the characters is being ripped apart by these two female demons. They are creepy looking. Other demons are well done. The zombies, on the other hand, just look like a bunch of cheap horror makeup put on a bunch of friends and relatives, diminishing the illusion. The flashbacks, however, to 1600's Europe are well-done, especially with all the swords and costumes. The thing that irritated me the most were these long quotes from Del Rio's journal which would scroll down the screen, with a voiceover. The one at the beginning was okay-but not the other few spread throughout the movie. And I would bet money that none of the actors in the movie ever acted in anything before other than a high school play. The production company is Back of the House Productions-and, while you can tell a lot of effort went into making this movie by these first-time filmmakers, it does indeed look like it was shot in the back of the house.
