This is an odd program, a syndicated tv series from the late 1980's. The creators of the show use the 1953 George Pal produced WAR OF THE WORLDS movie as its basis-and tell the story of how the dormant aliens are awakening and taking over human bodies in their goal to take over the Earth for their own needs. After spending over 30 years sealed in metal containers, these one-eyed, three-fingered creatures are awakening, having gained an immunity to the bacteria that originally defeated them. They are able to take over human bodies by merging with people, though the human bodies deteriorate and look like zombies after several days. A scientist by the name of Harrison Blackwood has been keeping track of the creatures-and recruits biologist named Suzanne, a computer wizard named Norton and an American Indian Colonel to be on his team. As the 24 one-hour episodes progress, the special effects get better and gorier. One of the more memorable episodes involved the aliens stealing human brains, leaving the empty headed corpses behind (seemed to be influenced by RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD). At times the dialogue makes you cringe and the computer special effects are simplistic. Yet the show remains entertaining. The season ends with a goofy episode about an female android who acts like the performance artist from outer space. She tells the team that she's on their side-but is actually a threat even worse than the invading aliens they're already dealing with (sort of reminded me of the ending of the "V" series). If I remember correctly, the second year of this show takes place after a devastating Third World War, years after the events of the first season.
