In the opening scene a man is pursued by a tentacled b-movie looking monster next to a theater playing SPACE AVENGER (one of the director's previous movies). The monster kills him. But when his body is reported to the police the next day it appears as if he was scared to death since there's not a mark on him. Then, after the opening credits, we go to the same guy who is proposing a story idea to the editor of Ghastly Horror Magazine. He wants to interview people about their deepest fears. He gets the go ahead and then proceeds to interview individuals in Times Square. An Asian woman tells of her fear of being in public in her underwear. An African-American who has worked his way out of a bad neighborhood is afraid of running into the gangs that terrorized him as a kid and an office worker is afraid of "The Monster Under the Bed".
Then, one by one, they begin having hallucinations about their fears, fears which ultimately begin to cause their deaths. Is the interview, known as "The Ghost Writer", responsible? Or is it someTHING else?
While I didn't find the examples of people's fears all that captivating, there are some good performances by the leads and I found the movie otherwise unpredictable. This is a weird little horror movie. Directed by Richard W. Haines (ALIEN SPACE AVENGER, SPLATTER UNIVERSITY). Check out his recent interview in the interview section of buried.com...
