Teenager Marie lives in a small fishing community and has begun working at the local fish processing plant. She has a strange rash on her chest but the doctor tells her nothing is wrong, though we have a feeling he's not telling her something. Her home life is depressing. Her mother has a mysterious malady that keeps her nearly catatonic in a wheelchair and her father is depressed. Things are just a little better at work. While several of the guys are interested in her, the women seem very jealous and even fill her locker with fish guts. And Marie is changing. That patch of rash grows long hair and she's becoming more aggressive. It's when she goes home one night and her father and the doctor corner her to give her a shot of medication that things become more clear. As she struggles against the two men her mother leaps out of the wheelchair and bites out the doctor's throat. The father buries him while Marie gives her mother a bath.
Soon, some of the townsfolk appear and ask to examine the mother's skin, nails and teeth for blood. Yes, this seems to have happened before.
Marie grows more distant and has strange, animalistic dreams. She also gets a boyfriend named Daniel. Eventually the townsfolk come after her. She kills one of them and gets knocked unconscious. When she awakens she's locked in a room on a fishing boat out to sea. Fortunately Daniel has snuck aboard and frees her. By now she's transformed into a werewolf like creature, covered in hair with yellow eyes and long nails and teeth. She kills them one by one, left to confront her human boyfriend. What will happen next?
Although it's slow-paced, it is a cool werewolf movie, primarily because of how it's handled. Recommended.
