A young woman, who has the disease that covers her body in hair, has spent most of her life as an exhibit in a traveling freakshow. Tim Curry is the owner and caretaker of the troupe and has raised her as his own daughter. But she wants to be normal-looking. When the opportunity arrises in the form of a geeky kid whose mother works at the local science facility, she goes for it and takes these injections of a new drug that prevents body hair. The one side effect is that it makes her violent so that the more she starts to become normal in appearance the more she behaves like a wolf in her mind. And soon the local teenagers who taunted her during her show start to die. This is a very quirky, disturbing made-for-cable movie, more comparable to CARRIE than THE WOLFMAN. The performances are right on, the effects surprisingly gory for television. Released as BLOOD MOON on video and DVD. This is up there with GINGER SNAPS and DOG SOLDIERS as one of the better werewolf movies made in the past decade.
