This sequel begins with a camera gliding over the woods of West Virginia, saying a town named Fairlake was established in 1814 and the entire population disappeared in 1817. It's a legend that the Hill People attacked and then ate all the residents of the town. Then, we go to present day where a young couple is having sex in a tent. They get scared by a bunch of friends dressed like hillbilllies and it's because of the tenth Mountain Man Festival that is happening. While the nearby town is getting ready for this we go to the woods, where a lone woman jogger encounters a guy she assumes is wearing a deformed mask. But it's really a mutant. He cuts off and when she gives him the finger he chops it off. A normal looking guy, Maynard Odetts (Doug Bradley), shows up and seems to help her as a trio of mutants emerge but it turns out that he's part of their family. We learn he's been doing this for thirty years and yells at the monsters when they leave a wallet behind in the woods. Basically, he's the brains behind the inbred mutant family and manages to keep them hidden.
The group of friends are driving down the road and swerve out of the way to avoid hitting Maynard and crash their car into a pine tree. They go back to help him but he slashes out with a knife, cutting one. Before his trio of deformed kin can come and kill them the Sheriff shows up all and takes them to jail because there are drugs in the SUV. The sheriff only holds one of them in the cell and the others stay in a nearby hotel. Oh, it also turns out Maynard is wanted for murder from some years before.
There are some truly gruesome killings. The giggly mutant disembowels a girl and feeds her her own intestines. In another scene they cut the ears off a deputy and eat them in front of him. And they answered my question of how this crazy deformed family continues-- they kidnap women. Bloodlines is more of a direct sequel to Part Four, Bloody Beginnings. And Doug Bradley's British accent creeps in every so often. But the main thing I wondered is why did Bradley quit the Hellraiser franchise to be a part of this one?
