The movie doesn't quite live up to its title. The events take place on an island community that becomes infected with a zombie virus when a zombie washes ashore. The main characters are an American college girl dropout who is of Iranian descent, a gay couple and the obligatory crazy church guy. She's having an identity crisis and doesn't want to end up working at her father's restaurant. The two gay guys are here to visit one of their mothers so he can finally come out of the closet. And the crazy church guy is simply crazy.
There are a few memorable gore sequences, such as when a guy gets his face peeled off like a fruit roll-up and when a zombie mother eats her own eyeball like a marshmallow. These are all the old-fashioned "slow" zombies, though there's a 28 WEEKS LATER joke at the end of the film. I didn't really find the movie all that funny, which I think it was going for, though it does work much better as a satire of American culture in the 21st Century. I think I am simply weary of yet another zombie movie. Can someone please make a horror movie that doesn't involve serial killers, Asian ghosts, vampires or zombies?
